A Catholic Priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, founded the KofC at St. Mary Church, New Haven Connecticut in 1882. His vision was to create an organization to help the widows and orphans of laborers who died in the harsh working environments of that era. The Order has grown into a global powerhouse of available benefits for it’s members and their dependents. It is an organization that since 1882, has embodied the selflessness of man and has helped overcome adversity in the world.
· The Knights of Columbus Insurance Program offers members, their spouses and children, the opportunity for their security and well-being. There is no more highly rated insurer in North America than the Knights of Columbus.
· We see the importance of helping today’s youth become tomorrow’s leaders by helping boys and girls build a strong sense of civic and religious responsibility. We sponsor youth and family - focused endeavors such as Squire Circles for young men ages 10 - 18. We support local youth groups and sponsor Spelling-bees, Essay contests, Free throw competitions, Soccer Challenges, Fishing Derby’s and much more.
· Through strength in membership and structured protocol, each council plans and executes programs for it’s members. The Knights of Columbus is a magnificent faith based organization, supporting Church, community, family, respect-life, youth and the council.
· Our Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson said “Every member of the Knights of Columbus has a moral obligation to ask every Catholic man to join us.” Your invitation to join the Knights of Columbus is now and the contact information is directly to the right of this column. God bless.

The Coats for Kids program is another project which provides more than 70,000 winter coats for needy children.

Still another of our projects is the Global Wheel Chair Mission provided 8,000 wheelchairs to handicapped individuals throughout the world including 2,000 to US Military Veterans here in the United States.
In 2011, the Knights raised and distributed more than $158 million and contributed more than 70 million volunteer hours in service to Church, community, youth and fellow man.
